Post-Session: Market fails to hold early gains; snaps 5-day winning run

Indian equity indices ended lower in the volatile session on April 26 and snapped a five-day gaining streak with Nifty falling below 22,400.



Despite mixed global cues, the market started on a positive note but erased all the gains in the initial hours and traded in the negative zone for the rest of the day to close near the day's high.



Top losers on the Nifty were Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, Nestle India, IndusInd Bank, M&M, while gainers were Tech Mahindra, Divis Labs, LTIMindtree, Bajaj Auto, and BPCL.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 73730.16 down by -609.28 points or by -0.82 % and then NSE Nifty was at 22419.95 down by -150.4 points or by -0.67 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 74515.91 and intraday low of 73616.65 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 22620.4 and intraday low of 22385.55



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1277.45,+7.34%), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 464.65,+0.79%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 439.95,+0.56%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 9735.35,+0.53%), Titan Company Ltd. (Rs. 3584.40,+0.33%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Finance Ltd. (Rs. 6729.85,-7.73%), Bajaj Finserv Ltd. (Rs. 1597.10,-3.55%), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1445.85,-3.36%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2483.80,-3.08%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1608.40,-2.11%), among others.



CDS index was at 54995.94 up by 825.14 points or by 1.52%. Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd. (Rs. 8571.85,+5.92%), Havells India Ltd. (Rs. 1639.35,+4.93%), Voltas Ltd. (Rs. 1461.00,+2.37%), Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd. (Rs. 268.75,+1.42%), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 312.85,+1.16%),.



Bankex index was at 54606.29 down by -387.57 points or by -0.7%. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1445.85,-3.36%), Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1608.40,-2.11%), Au Small Finance Bank Ltd. (Rs. 599.80,-1.52%), State Bank of India (Rs. 801.40,-1.38%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1107.15,-0.53%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4153 , shares advanced were 2123 while 1855 shares declined and 175 were unchanged.
