Centre Releases Rs 717 Crore XV Finance Commission Grants to Rural Local Bodies in Maharashtra

The Union Government has released Rs 717.17 crore to Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) in Maharashtra as the first instalment of Untied Grants under the XV Finance Commission for FY 2025–26. The funds have been disbursed to duly elected and eligible bodies, covering 2 Zilla Parishads, 15 Panchayat Samitis, and 26,544 Gram Panchayats across the state.

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj and the Ministry of Jal Shakti recommend the release of these grants to states, which are then issued by the Ministry of Finance in two instalments each financial year.

Untied Grants allow local bodies to address location-specific development needs within the 29 subjects listed in the Eleventh Schedule of the Constitution, excluding salary and establishment expenses. Tied Grants, on the other hand, are earmarked for essential services such as sanitation and ODF maintenance, including waste and fecal sludge management, as well as drinking water supply, rainwater harvesting, and water recycling.
