L&T Partners Indian Army for Sustenance and Upgradation of In-Service Pinaka Rocket Systems

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Indian Army for the sustenance, overhaul, and upgradation of in-service Pinaka Multi-Rocket Launcher Systems, marking a significant step in lifecycle support of indigenous artillery platforms.

L&T has been awarded a supply order by the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) of the Indian Army for overhaul, upgrade, and obsolescence management of the Pinaka systems. The partnership aims to enhance long-term operational availability and modernisation of Pinaka regiments currently deployed with the Army.

The programme will focus on managing obsolete components, upgrading critical sub-systems, and providing sustained technical support to Army Base Workshops. It also reinforces the public–private partnership (PPP) model in defence sustenance and lifecycle support.

Under the initiative, 510 Army Base Workshop (ABW) EME will carry out the overhaul and upgrade of critical electronics and systems, leveraging its in-house expertise. As the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), L&T will supply critical spares and support sub-system modernisation, enabling a shift from conventional maintenance to a structured, lifecycle-based sustenance framework.

In the initial phase, L&T and 510 ABW will jointly undertake a pilot overhaul of the Pinaka Launcher and Battery Command Post. Following successful completion, the remaining systems will be upgraded by 510 ABW, with L&T continuing to provide spares, technical support, and quality oversight.

The collaboration is expected to serve as a blueprint for similar lifecycle management programmes across other defence platforms, strengthening India’s self-reliant and future-ready defence ecosystem. The initiative aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision by leveraging indigenous design, manufacturing, and systems integration capabilities.

L&T is a long-standing development partner of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Army for the design and supply of the Pinaka artillery system. This partnership represents a paradigm shift in defence sustenance through deeper industry–Army collaboration.
