India, Afghanistan review measures to strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties

India and Afghanistan held a virtual Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on Trade, Commerce and Investment on September 1, 2026, to review bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Officials from both countries discussed measures to facilitate trade and deepen commercial engagement, with key areas including customs cooperation, visa facilitation for Afghan traders, banking and financial cooperation, pharmaceutical and agricultural trade, energy, investment promotion, tariff concessions, cargo connectivity and port-related issues.

Both sides agreed to strengthen customs and data-sharing mechanisms, regulatory cooperation in pharmaceuticals and agriculture, trade connectivity, and investment and business-to-business engagement.

The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade, commerce and investment ties and agreed to continue engagement on the identified areas.
