Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a positive note on April 23, taking cues from the GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 24,391 earlier this morning.
The strong start will be supported by positive global cues. Investor sentiment improved after U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that the final tariffs on China may not be as high as 145 per cent, though they also won’t be reduced to zero. Additionally, Trump’s remarks that he does not intend to remove Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell further boosted market confidence.
On Tuesday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 79595.59 up by 187.09 points or by 0.24 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24167.25 up by 41.7 points or by 0.17 %.
On the global front, Stock markets were enjoying a much-needed relief rally in Asia on Wednesday after President Donald Trump said he had no plans to fire the head of the Federal Reserve, and hinted at lower tariffs for China. Japan's Nikkei 225 adding 1.89 per cent, South Korea's Kospi gaining 0.98 per cent, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 climbing 1.67 per cent.
US stocks rebounded on Tuesday from the previous day's selloff as investors focused on earnings, while the dollar rose after U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a closed-door meeting that he believes there will be a de-escalation in U.S.-China trade tensions.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1,016.57 points, or 2.66%, to 39,186.98, the S&P 500 rose 129.56 points, or 2.51%, to 5,287.76, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 429.52 points, or 2.71%, to 16,300.42.
