Sensex down 200 points; small, midcaps gain

Indian benchmark equity indices were trading in the red on Thursday, following India’s announcement of economic and diplomatic actions against Pakistan in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that claimed 26 lives.



At 10:45 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 79916.22 down by -200.27 points or by -0.25 % and then NSE Nifty was at 24276.85 down by -52.1 points or by -0.21 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 80173.92 and intraday low of 79829.11 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24347.85 and intraday low of 24239.45



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 831.40,+4.72%), Nestle India Ltd. (Rs. 2481.20,+1.93%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2482.55,+1.20%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 665.70,+0.88%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12004.65,+0.79%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 2366.60,-2.29%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1851.75,-1.59%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 2885.20,-1.10%), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 1411.60,-0.87%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1585.65,-0.54%), among others.



HCS index was at 43113.1 up by 420.09 points or by 0.98%. Thyrocare Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 878.00,+14.20%), Natco Pharma Ltd. (Rs. 938.80,+11.08%), Gufic BioSciences Ltd. (Rs. 396.15,+9.75%), Vimta Labs Ltd. (Rs. 1137.15,+8.48%), Shilpa Medicare Ltd. (Rs. 723.85,+6.35%),.



Realty index was at 6861.09 down by -93.83 points or by -1.35%. Macrotech Developers Ltd. (Rs. 1310.75,-4.04%), Prestige Estates Projects Ltd. (Rs. 1295.00,-2.14%), Anant Raj Ltd. (Rs. 489.05,-1.57%), Oberoi Realty Ltd. (Rs. 1686.20,-1.20%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 682.50,-0.76%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 3822 , shares advanced were 2204 while 1397 shares declined and 221 were unchanged.
