Mid-Session: D-Street extends fall, Nifty below 25,650; Newgen Software Zooms 14%

Indian benchmarks continued to extend losses during the noon trading session amid profit booking after three consecutive sessions of gains. Among the broader markets, the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 indices were trading lower by 0.87 percent and 0.5 per cent, respectively.



Overseas, European stocks are seen opening on a mixed note Thursday as investors monitor the latest geopolitical developments and ponder the Fed's next move on interest rates.



Meanwhile, Crude oil prices have skyrocketed on Wednesday, regaining ground following the slump that was seen last week and extended into Tuesday. Gold prices have moved sharply higher during trading on Wednesday, largely offsetting the sharp pullback seen in the previous session.



Among individual shares, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Oil India shares rallied up to 4 per cent on the BSE in Thursday’s intra-day trade.



At 12:37 hours, the 30-share benchmark index was trading at 83006.53 down by -727.72 points or by -0.87 % and then NSE Nifty was at 25633.35 down by -186 points or by -0.72 %.



The BSE Sensex touched intraday high of 83979.36 and intraday low of 82943.49 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 25885.3 and intraday low of 25586.75.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1380.80,+0.53%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2698.00,+0.13%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Kwality Wall's (India) Ltd. (Rs. 28.30,-3.81%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 4058.50,-3.05%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 3443.75,-2.46%), UltraTech Cement Ltd. (Rs. 12796.85,-1.93%), InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (Rs. 4885.05,-1.90%), among others.



Among the sectors, HCS index was at 43297.05 up by -30.02 points or by -0.07%. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (Rs. 1192.25,+2.80%), Blue Jet Healthcare Ltd (Rs. 367.30,+2.18%), KMC Speciality Hospitals (India) Ltd. (Rs. 83.60,+1.74%), Biocon Ltd. (Rs. 385.10,+1.66%), Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Ltd. (Rs. 709.75,+1.49%),.



On the other side, Power index was at 6812.43 down by -95.89 points or by -1.39%. GE Vernova T&D India Ltd. (Rs. 3593.50,-3.58%), Hitachi Energy India Ltd. (Rs. 23010.05,-2.51%), Reliance Power Ltd. (Rs. 26.90,-1.93%), ABB India Ltd. (Rs. 5774.15,-1.82%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 256.35,-1.80%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4247 , shares advanced were 1528 while 2511 shares declined and 208 were unchanged.
