Post-Session: Market snaps 4-day fall, Nifty settles near 23,900

Indian equity indices broke a four-session losing streak and closed higher on September 4, supported by buying in metal, oil & gas and private banking stocks.



Positive global cues and growing expectations of a US Federal Reserve rate cut at its upcoming policy meeting supported the market at the open. The Nifty crossed the 24,000 mark during the session, but profit booking at higher levels trimmed the gains.



The 30-share benchmark index ended at 76515.43 up by 362.57 points or by 0.48 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23897.7 up by 24.25 points or by 0.1 %.



Sensex touched intraday high of 76883.14 and intraday low of 76515.43 The NSE Nifty touched intraday high of 24005.75 and intraday low of 23895.85.



The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1328.85,+2.14%), HDFC Bank Ltd. (Rs. 715.35,+1.61%), Trent Ltd. (Rs. 2844.30,+1.32%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 1980.40,+1.24%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd. (Rs. 1706.00,+1.15%), among others.



The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Eternal Ltd. (Rs. 323.10,-1.06%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 1854.50,-0.57%), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 1303.00,-0.55%), Asian Paints Ltd. (Rs. 2534.00,-0.24%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 12701.00,-0.03%), among others.



Metal index was at 42293.66 up by 593.05 points or by 1.42%. APL Apollo Tubes Ltd. (Rs. 2193.40,+1.97%), Adani Enterprises Ltd. (Rs. 2942.30,+1.95%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 596.85,+1.51%), Jindal Steel Ltd. (Rs. 1144.55,+0.62%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 183.95,+0.16%),.



CGS index was at 77868.58 down by -519.63 points or by -0.66%. KEI Industries Ltd. (Rs. 4876.05,-7.87%), Polycab India Ltd. (Rs. 8282.00,-6.15%), Thermax Ltd. (Rs. 3635.00,-2.54%), Cummins India Ltd. (Rs. 5029.95,-1.66%), Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd. (Rs. 2233.55,-1.49%),.



The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total shares traded 4579 , shares advanced were 2460 while 1885 shares declined and 234 were unchanged.
