Indian equities are expected to begin Friday’s session on a steady note, with a slight positive bias, as indicated by early movement in GIFT Nifty around the 23,123 level.
The domestic market came under heavy selling pressure in the previous session, with Sensex and Nifty closing significantly lower on September 24. Weakness across global markets weighed on investor sentiment, while rising US bond yields added to concerns over tighter financial conditions.
The US benchmark Treasury yield touched its highest level in nearly two decades, while a sharp rise in crude oil prices towards $105 per barrel further increased pressure on market sentiment.
Ahead of today’s trade, investors are likely to remain focused on global cues, movements in US Treasury yields, crude oil prices and institutional flows for further direction.
On Thursday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 73580.54 down by -1247.71 points or by -1.67 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23063.1 down by -383.7 points or by -1.64 %.
On the global front, Asian markets were mixed on Friday morning as investors assess the developments in the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 1.30 per cent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 1.64 per cent.
Markets were closed in mainland China and South Korea on Friday.
Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 ended 0.31 per cent and 0.02 per cent down, respectively. The Nasdaq Composite settled 0.01 per cent higher.
