Indian benchmark indices are expected to open on a flat to negative note on July 28, with GIFT Nifty trading lower at around 23,996.50 in early trade, indicating a subdued start.

In the previous session, the Sensex and Nifty ended sharply higher, snapping their five-session losing streak on the back of broad-based buying across sectors. Investor sentiment improved after geopolitical tensions eased and crude oil prices witnessed a sharp decline.

On Monday, the 30-share benchmark index ended at 76835.78 up by 776.01 points or by 1.02 % and then NSE Nifty was at 23995.95 up by 228.5 points or by 0.96 %.

On the global front, markets across the Asia-Pacific region were trading in the red as investors unwind their bets on technology stocks ahead of earnings from Amazon, Meta Inc, and Apple Inc. South Korea’s Kospi was down 8.04 per cent as SK Hynix shares plunged 10 per cent.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 and Australia’s S&P ASX 200 were down 3.84 per cent and 0.23 per cent, respectively. Overnight, the Nasdaq Composite ended 0.18 per cent down. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 settled 0.51 per cent and 0.02 per cent higher, respectively.

Back home, Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty – Eternal Ltd. 48012383.00, HDFC Bank Ltd. 29678752.00, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. 19910285.00, ITC Ltd. 19312804.00, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. 16710096.00, On NSE, total number of shares traded was 394.15 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 106403.84 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 169185 with a total turnover of Rs. 27281.98 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 4807306 with a total turnover of Rs. 323508.43 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 143019660 with a total turnover of Rs. 22582298.47 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 10624395 with a total turnover of Rs. 747570.29 Crore.

The FIIs on 27/07/2026 stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 11952.88 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 887.27 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 15381.03 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 200.14 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -3428.15 Crore and Rs. 687.13
